The Painted Ladies have emerged!

Over the weekend, our Painted Lady Butterflies came out of their chrysalises!

We have 6 new butterflies and a name for each and every one of them: Sky, Noodles, Sweetie Pie, Orangey, Scaley and Picasso. One Painted Lady still remains in his chrysalis. We've named him Leo the Late Bloomer.

Check in with us later this week to watch the Painted Ladies released into the world!

Rain in a Jar

Emma is our Scientist for J Week!

She showed us how with a jar, hot water and ice, we can make rain! She placed the ice on top of the jar filled with hot water.

And we watched as the heat from the water and mix with the cold air from the ice. When the hot and cold air met, condensation formed creating rain inside the jar!

Great job, Emma!

Scientist of the Week

Kiera is our Scientist of the Week!

Our experiment is called The Talking String for "T" week. We used a piece of string and a button to demonstrate how, when the string is wound up then pulled apart quickly, the button and string will vibrate together.

The vibration makes it sound like the string is talking!

Great job, Kiera!

Scientist of the Week

Matthew is our Scientist of the Week! He demonstrated an experiment called Sticky Penny.
In this experiment, we used a penny, an eyedropper and some water to show how water collects on the surface of the coin. We predicted how many drops of water we could put onto the penny without the water overflowing.
Most of us predicted 5-10 drops. But we reached 21 drops before the water overflowed! We learned about molecules, cohesion and surface tension.
Way to go, Matthew!
