Our experiment was called Dancing Ice for "I" Week. The materials included vegetable oil, a glass jar and an ice cube.
We submerged the ice cube in the oil. The ice began to dance around as it melted!
Way to go, Sydney!

Scientist of the Week

Matthew is our Scientist of the Week! He demonstrated an experiment called Sticky Penny.
In this experiment, we used a penny, an eyedropper and some water to show how water collects on the surface of the coin. We predicted how many drops of water we could put onto the penny without the water overflowing.
Most of us predicted 5-10 drops. But we reached 21 drops before the water overflowed! We learned about molecules, cohesion and surface tension.
Way to go, Matthew!

March Reading Madness Assembly

March Reading Madness

Today we celebrated everyone who participated in our March Reading Madness program.  We received bookmarks and watched a Battle of the Books competition between 8th and 9th Age students.  One of our Pilot B students won a prize for answering a question at the assembly and another student won an prize and a book for reading for the most in Pilot B.  Way to go readers!

Amazing Balloon

Adair is our Scientist of the Week!
She showed us how to poke a wooden skewer through a blown-up balloon without making it pop.
We used Petroleum Jelly on the tip of the skewer. This allowed the skewer to poke all the way through the balloon without popping it.
Way to go, Adair!
