Scientist Of The Week!

Kiera was our Scientist of the Week for Z Week!

She showed us how a Ziploc Bag and Crisco can act just like the blubber on a Polar Bear!

When our hand was bare in the water, it felt cold.

But when we used the Crisco as blubber, the water wasn't cold anymore!

Great job, Kiera!

NASA comes to Calvert

NASA Comes to Pilot!

Today we had Kiera's dad visit to talk to us about space.  He works for NASA and is currently working on the next mission to the moon.

We learned about the ozone layer and why scientists study the ocean and weather from space.

We watched a special video about the Mars Mission Launch that will take place this August.  We also learned why astronauts wear a space suit and how they eat in space.

We even got freeze dried astronaut ice cream.  We can't wait to taste it!

Thank you so much Mr. C!  We really enjoyed learning about space!

Happy 100th Day

Happy 100th Day of School!

Yesterday we celebrated the 100th Day of school.  We made a trail mix by counting ten of each of the ten items (Kix, goldfish, pretzels, chocolate chips, M&Ms, marshmallows, fruit loops, cheerios, reaisins, and ritz bits).  What a yummy snack!

We made 100th Day glasses.

In Math we practiced counting to ten and conting by tens all the way to 100.  We made 100th Day banners.

In Language Arts we talked about 100 things we wished we could have and drew a picture.  One friend wished for 100 friends.

Happy 100th Day!

Scientist of the Week!

Today, Matthew is our Scientist of the Week!

It's Y Week and Matthew showed us how to make a boomerang and a helicopter out of the letter Y shape.

Way to go, Matthew!

Mystery Reader

Today we had Matthew's grandmother "Busha" visit to read to our class. She read the book, Fish Tales, written by her friend Debbie Jones. She also read, "A Valentine for Adele". The illustrator, Mike Symanski, is Mathew's cousin.  Thank you for the yummy cookies!

Scientist of the Week!

Today, Bren was the Scientist of the Week for X Week!

He got to show us how a Water Xylophone works.

We figured out that the sound of the glass changes when there are different levels of water in each cup! Take a look.

Great job Bren!

International Week

This week we celebrated International Week at Calvert.  Here are some photos from the week!
